There are plenty of Gold Coast activities to help keep you entertained during your holiday on the Gold Coast. Most of them are based in Surfers Paradise.
If you would like to try your hand at learning to surf there are a few places to try:
- Cheyne Horan is a World Champion and is based just across the road from Surfers Paradise Surf Club. He offers lessons twice a day 7 days a week for beginners and also offers intermediate and advanced coaching.
- Brad Holmes has been surf coaching since 1992.
- Broad Beach Surf School is based in Broad Beach to the south of Surfers Paradise.
- Gold Coast Surf Academy is also based in Broad Beach and offer lessons to all levels.
For people holidaying in Coolangatta who would like to learn to surf you could try Walkin’ On Water which is based on Greenmount Beach. This is the only surf school actually based in Coolangatta but you could also try Cheyne Horan mentioned above who is based in Surfers Paradise but will come to you when necessary. You can either book lessons through the visitors centre or get in touch with him directly.
Seabreeze Sports are located in Mariners Cove on Seaworld Drive and offer parasailing, speed boat adventures and jet ski hire. They also do 4 hour calm water cruises around the Broadwater which include pelican feeding, mudcrab catching and general relaxing on the boat. Morning tea is included and lunch is an optional extra. You can also take part in an underwater adventure where you put on a full face mask which allows natural breathing and go down to 3 metres onboard their underwater vessel allowing you to see and possibly feed the fish.
Other companies offering jet boat trips are Jetboat Extreme who have a 55 minute trip through the Broadwater and past South Stradbroke Island and Paradise Jet Boating who have a wide range of trips to choose from.
Jet Ski Safaris take you on 1 or 2 hour trips on jet skis departing from Mariners Cove and take you off the beaten track heading north through the Broadwater past South Stradbroke Island past and round lots of other small islands as far as the southern tip of North Stradbroke Island.
There are also plenty of Gold Coast activities which do not involve the sea.
You can take a helicopter tour over Surfers Paradise and the surrounding area with Gold Coast Helitours who have tours lasting from 5 till 30 minutes depending on how much money you want to spend and how far you want to go. If you really want to be adventurous they also offer helicopter skydiving where you are harnessed to an instructor. You can get more information on their website above.
A more relaxed way to see this area from the sky is to take a one hour balloon flight with Balloon Down Under who are based in West Burleigh. There is a complimentary pick up service from your accommodation. After the sunrise flight over the Gold Coast hinterland you have breakfast in the Palm Meadows Golfing Resort where you will receive your Flight Certificate.
And there are some real adrenalin filled Gold Coast activities.
You can bungy jump from 14 floors up with Bungy Australia who are based at 16 Palm Avenue, Surfers Paradise, go sea kayaking or go horse riding. You should visit the visitors centre for more information on these and other activities.
Adrenalin junkies should definitely visit the Adrenalin Park on the corner of Palm Ave & Gold Coast Hwy in Surfers Paradise to have a go on rides sush as the Sling Shot which catapults you into the air, the Vomatron or the Star Flyer.
