You will find most Hervey Bay restaurants on the Esplanade in Torquay and Scarness but there are others in Urangan by the marina and by the pier.
Hervey Bay Restaurants in Torquay
The Torquay Hotel on the Esplanade is a very popular place both for lunch and dinner. They do all the usual dishes such as steaks which are fairly big and good quality, chicken schnitzel, pasta dishes and pizzas all of which are a good size. They have lots of tables outside and have gas heaters which are used to keep the chill away in the winter months.
Hoolihan’s, also on the Esplanade heading from Torquay to Scarness, is always busy and rightly so as the food is excellent. Try the Barramundi with King Prawns or one of the steaks which come with salad and chips or mash and veggies. You have to order at the bar and rather than a number to identify you they give you a sign with an Irish county on it. They offer a free dinner up to $25 if it is your birthday and you have some proof. It is a good idea to book a table at weekends and in the high season.
Next to Hoolihan’s are Dom’s Italian Cantina with a range of pizzas and pasta dishes and the Black Dog Cafe which do some interesting breakfast options.
There are a couple of Chinese restaurants in Torquay which do an all you can eat evening buffet and the Fraser Roving Backpackers has a bistro with an all you can eat Mexican buffet from 6pm for a very reasonable price.
If you are looking for something a bit more upmarket than these options you could try the Sails Restaurant or the Aegean Waters Restaurant on the corner of the Esplanade and Fraser Street. They are both very good restaurants but can be a bit quiet in the low season.
Hervey Bay Restaurants in Scarness
The Indian Taj on the Esplanade is an authentic Indian Restaurant. The curries are very good and you can choose to have them mild, medium or hot as you prefer and the Samosas are excellent. It is BYO and there is a bottle shop at the Beachhouse Hotel just along from the restaurant.
Enzo’s on the Beach is a lovely place to have breakfast or lunch or even just a coffee or a smoothie. The tables are all outside overlooking the beach and is such a peaceful place to sit and relax. They have lots of breakfast options, some interesting lunch snacks and the food is fantastic and a good size. Try the Thai Fish Burger or the Chicken Breast Burger which are great.
The Beachhouse Hotel on the Esplanade in Scarness has a bistro with plenty of tables inside and out and offers all the Australian bar favourites.
Restaurants in Urangan
In Urangan by the pier is the Salt Cafe and the Bay Water Hotel Restaurant, both part of the Peppers Resort. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and the restaurant is open for dinner. They both have terraces with partial views of the sea.
At the Urangan Harbour the Baleana Cafe does a buffet lunch and dinner for a very reasonable price and also has an a la carte menu. It has a lovely terrace with great views over the marina.
The Boat Club, also at the harbour, has a bistro but during the day it is very much for the older crowd with a band and dancing.
A bit more upmarket than these options is The Pier which is near the Urangan Pier and does some great seafood meals.
There are lots of cafes on the Esplanade in Torquay and Scarness.
In Torquay, Simply Wok does a good cooked breakfast and also pancakes before becoming a Chinese restaurant for lunch and dinner, Club Crepery offers more healthy breakfast and lunch choices, the nameless place in between the previous two has some cheaper breakfast and lunches and the Cafe Bayaroma has fancier options than the norm.
